Melbourne’s historic district is being eroded by the speed at which development is creeping towards the centre. But they’re called “civic centres” for a reason, and it’s time to reflect on what these represent.

To start, here’s an interesting passage from A.D. Hope’s History of Melbourne, written in 1880:

This is a working man’s city, and the citizens stand four in five together, as it seems. It is not among the poor, but the sons of the poor, who live there. I visited their dwellings, in the vicinity of South Melbourne, and in a large number of them I found the members of the families employed at one or more of

What’s New in the?

The Installed Application Manager is a small tool created in the C#.NET framework by Ronny Spoeckert, author of the MEAP.NET framework.

Installed Application Manager is a fast and easy to use tool that adds/removes programs to/from your computer, and works in conjunction with Windows Installer.

It is designed to work with all versions of Windows, including Windows 8, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Vista.

Installed Application Manager Features:

Can be used from the command line and from the Microsoft Windows Start menu

Theoretically supports over 2000+ programs, though at the moment I have used it with over 1200 programs installed

Uses the Windows Installer API, so it will work on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8

In addition to the main GUI, it has a command-line GUI that is ideal for batch files, C# and PowerShell scripts, or just general command-line usage

Tries to use the best possible Windows Installer API method, or fall back to a straight uninstall, as required

The work has been completed in a relatively short time, so it is already usable in many scenarios. It has the typical flaws of a first-time developer, though, so expect a bit of buggy and slow UI, minor UI quirks, and the like. I’m happy to hear about any suggestions or comments on the code.

For compatibility with Windows Installer programs that have registry keys like “UninstallString”, which are not supported by Windows Installer, you can add the registry key “DisplayUninstallString” with a value of 0. This effectively converts the uninstall key to the uninstall string.

Note: If you want to actually use the INSTALLEDAPPLICATION.UISU in your uninstall code, you have to use “DisplayUninstallString” in a registry key, so you have to use some kind of text editor to edit the registry key.

There is a GUI version that you can use, so you can drag-and-drop programs from the program list on the left to the program list on the right, and it will install them to the Start menu. You can also drag-and-drop programs into the Start menu, and it will install them to the program list.

Note that there is a known bug in Windows XP that prevents programs from being installed into the Start menu using drag-and-drop, so if you are running Windows XP, you have to click the small “Add to Start” button instead of dragging-and-dropping to install.

Note that in Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8, the Start menu is not expandable by default, so you can not drag-and-drop programs directly into it. You need to click the little arrow-button to the right of the Start menu
